8 Ways to Update Your Wardrobe for Spring '14 on $75

While this week took a temperature nose dive and brought on rain, Spring has definitely been in the air lately. And new seasons always put me in a mood for refreshing my wardrobe. This Spring I was inspired by RetailMeNot's The Real Deal challenge to update your makeup for spring with $150. It was fun to read all the bloggers' suggestions and got me thinking about updating my fashion for Spring since I am pretty happy with my makeup routine.
Since we all know that I love to be frugal with my spending I wanted to be authentic in my choices for this challenge. Sure, I would love to splurge on a $50 eye shadow palette but that's just not realistic. In actuality, our budget only affords me $25/month on clothing purchases. So for a season that works out to $75. When you shop the way I do, that isn't too restricting.
For this challenge I wanted to update myself on what the experts say is still in for Spring 2014 and here is what I found:
According to Who What Wear
According to Levo
According to Style Bistro
Blazer
Skinny Jean
Orange/Red Lip
Bold Print Petite Bag
Mules
Earring Jackets
Matching Underwear

Pointy Flats
Stripes
Flare Jeans
Block Heels
Statement Jewelry
Pastels
Utility Jacket
New Bag
Midi Skirt
Pop of Color
Crop Tops
Shiny Metallics
Boyish Cuts
'90's Sporty
Snowy White
Sexy Sheer
Black & White
Embellished Frocks
Chambray
Transparent Stripes
Taking these pointers and my own personal style, I went shopping (figuratively speaking, although I did actually snag couple of these pieces). I stuck to shopping just from Kohl's with the exception of the lip stick. This is because, Kohl's is my main go-to clothing store and you can get some incredible deals. Plus if you are shopping online, you need to spend $75 to get free shipping. Sometimes I will order more than I plan to keep just to save on S&H and return the unwanted items in store.
As a Kohl's card holder, I also get regular discounts like 30% off my entire order right now. You can snag 20% via the promo code "GREATBRANDS" found on RetailMeNot. And for every $50  you spend between March 26-30, you will get $10 in Kohl's Cash which will be good for any purchase made between March 31-April 19. Also as an Ebates member you will get an extra 3% cash back.

  1. Daisy Fuentes Ponte Leggings - $10.08 (w/ 30% coupon from Kohl's Charge - 20% available from RetailMeNot via "GREATBRANDS" - plus $.30 Cash back from Ebates)
Why I picked this: Before my pregnancy I was firmly of the "Leggings are not pants" belief. But once my belly popped, I discovered how comfy and cute leggings could be. I really like that this pair has a faux zipper and pockets making them more pant like and the cut of them looks very flattering.
  2. Catherine Malandrino for DesignNation Peplum Ponte Dress - $9.80 (w/ 30% coupon from Kohl's Charge - 20% available from RetailMeNot via GREATBRANDS - plus $.29 Cash back from Ebates)
Why I picked this: While experts are still debating on how trendy Peplums will be this season, I am in love with them. They are flattering on every body type especially when you are recovering from a post baby bump. While this dress is definitely way shorter than I would wear, peplums also mean you can add fabric at the waist to inconspicuously lengthen a skirt. I will be turning this into separates any way for nursing purposes.
  3. Elle Lace Batwing Top - $13.44 w/ 30% coupon from Kohl's Charge - 20% available from RetailMeNot via "GREATBRANDS" - plus $.40 Cash back from Ebates)
Why I picked this: I feel like this shirt is the perfect hit for both Style Bistro's sexy sheer and Levo's demand for pastels. Plus the pretty Lilac color is right on trend with Pantone's Color of the Year Radiant Orchid.
  4. CoverGirl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm, Tweet Me 225 - $5.24 (after $.75/1 coupon available on coupons.com)
Why I picked this: I am definitely a balm girl over lip stick or gloss. So this shade of Smoochies is a perfect way for me to uphold Who What Wear's call for Orange/Red lips this season.
  5. Rock & Republic Flats - $16.79 (w/ 30% coupon from Kohl's Charge - 20% available from RetailMeNot via "GREATBRANDS" - plus $.50 Cash back from Ebates)
Why I picked this: These Levo approved pointy flats also happen to feature Style Bistro's shiny metallic making them another double win item. Unfortunately they are no longer available in my size :(
  6. Candie's Lace Back Chambray Top - $5.32 (w/ 30% coupon from Kohl's Charge - 20% available from RetailMeNot via "GREATBRANDS" - plus $.16 Cash back from Ebates)
Why I picked this: I was happy to see that chambray made the list for another season. Plus I am still in love with lace accents even if that is more last year.
  7. LC Lauren Conrad Colorblock Blazer in Marshmallow - $14.70 (w/ 30% coupon from Kohl's Charge - 20% available from RetailMeNot via "GREATBRANDS" - plus $.44 Cash back from Ebates)
Why I picked this: You cannot go wrong with a tailored blazer and this one perfectly fits into the call for Snowy White and Black & White staples :)
  8. Simply Vera Vera Wang Bella Crossbody Bag - $12.39 (w/ 30% coupon from Kohl's Charge - 20% available from RetailMeNot via "GREATBRANDS" - plus $.37 Cash back from Ebates)
Why I picked this: I'm more of a big bag girl myself but this petite bag offers an excellent pop of color that will hopefully help you feel less self-conscious about sporting that bold bright lip color.
So my grand total for all this would be $87.76. When you factor in the $10 Kohl's Cash and $2.47 Ebates cash back, it's like spending $75.29. Not too shabby if I say so myself :)
How do you plan to update your wardrobe this Spring?
