How to Score a Free Breast Pump

That's right, I'm sharing my tip for getting a FREE double electric breast pump. I've known about this possibility for a while but wanted to hold off sharing until I experienced it first hand for myself. A couple months ago, I found this blog post from Hellobee talking about free pumps through your insurance.
This lead me to check with our plan about coverage and sure enough, any pump valued up to $200 was free if purchased from an in-network DME. But I would not be able to receive it until after Minion's birth so I put it on the back burner as something to look into more in the last few weeks.

Fast forward to week 31 and I decided to start researching in-network DMEs I could order from. This proved harder to do than I anticipated. We have United Healthcare (UHC) and their provider research tool doesn't have a specific breast pump supplier feature.
I decided to call UHC to see if they could give me a list because some other moms on forums mentioned doing that. But unfortunately they had no real suggestions, they were able to verify our coverage though and that their policy had changed with the new year and that I could order my pump at any point in my pregnancy and it would be the supplier's discretion as to when to ship.
With much goggling and the help of this Hygeia pump supplier list, I was able to find the following In-Network DME's who offered pumps through UHC.

Edgepark Medical Suppliers
Please call us at 1-800-321-0591 (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, EST)
An Edgepark customer care specialist will ask for your health insurance plan information (policy number and insurance phone number) and your doctor's information, including his or her name and phone number.
Edgepark will then contact your health insurance and doctor on your behalf to confirm coverage and complete your order. If there is an amount due, Edgepark will contact you to confirm your coverage. Be aware, many insurance companies won't cover breast pumps until the baby is born.
Your equipment is sent right to your door free of charge after order processing (order processing can take up to 5 days for first-time orders, then 1-3 days shipping).
Provide a breast pump to you up to 30 days prior to your baby's date of birth and up to 12 months after delivery.

We will send the pump as soon as we have your doctors order or prescription. We are allowed to send the pump out in the last 30 days of your pregnancy.
*All UHC members require a doctors order or prescription. Prescription must be in mother’s name, stating “double electric breast pump”.  You may upload your prescription if you have it, or we will contact your physician to obtain one.

If you will be submitting an order to be billed to United Healthcare, we will begin the verification process 5 business days prior to your due date. This conforms with the United Healthcare guidelines that state the baby must be born before we are permitted to ship.
Once you have placed your order, we will send you a shipping notification including tracking information the evening your order ships and this will be the only communication you will receive unless the status of your order changes (inventory shortages, Insurance provider quotes less than 100%, delays for prescription requests, etc.).
You can expect 3-5 business days for shipping time once you have received your shipping notification.

Once I had this list, I started researching each available pump to pick my top choice. I ended up going with the Bailey Deluxe Nurture III because of the closed system, 5 year warranty, and that it came with so many accessories. Plus I loved working with AeroFlow. I just filled out their form and they requested the prescription and confirmed the coverage for me.
All I had to pay was the $25 S&H which my insurance wouldn't cover. So if you think you may want to use a breast pump check with your insurance about what they will cover before you pay for one out of pocket :)
