Summary from GoodReads:
A mysterious island.
An abandoned orphanage.
A strange collection of very curious photographs.
It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.
A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

The Verdict: I had heard of this book but didn't really know what it was about until a friend loaned it to me with glowing reviews. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
As a long time X-men fan and one of the few people that stuck with Heroes all the way through, I absolutely loved the premise of peculiar children in this book.
It is so hard to write a review for it without giving anything away so I will keep this short. But the twists and turns left me completely dumbfounded all the way until the end of this epic tale. And I am so excited to hear that a sequel is in the works :)
If you are looking for a page-turning read with lovable characters, intense plot lines, and amazing writing, you have to pick up a copy of this and read it for yourself. But be warned: this is not a good bed time tale or you will be sleeping with the lights on for a while. There's something so eerie about the real photos that you want to look away but you are glued to them like a moth in a flame O_O
